I took some time to put WhoIs Analyzer Pro through its paces and despite being a little skeptical at first, must say that I'm impressed. The searches are blazingly fast compared to what I've seen in Terminal and IPNetMonitorX and, from what I've seen, the information is complete and accurate. The retail price is a bit much for a one trick pony, but the reduced price fits the bill. I do whois searches regularly and this will prove to be a useful addition to my toolbox.

For what it's worth, I ran Instruments on it, and it does do its own network connections without spinning off a (command line) whois task.

.

Still seems a very steep price though -- hard to believe there would be many people out there who do many whois queries but wouldn't be just as comfortable using the Terminal.

I've been using WhoIs Analyzer Pro for a few weeks now, and this is really handy for its smart lookup, which will follow referring links until it finds the best whois database to query. This is also a great companion for Path Analyzer Pro, which performs traceroutes and shows geographical locations for hosts. Download this and give it a try--if it's something you've got a use for, this is a great piece of software.

Vendor website asserts "[WAP] grants you access ..." without distinguishing "grants" from "provides" or supplying any details about ways their tool is better than plain "whois" invoked via Network Utility or a Terminal. A comparison with "dig" would also be useful.

Very fast and accurate. If you do lookups frequently this tool saves quite a bit of time and effort. If you only lookup occasionally you'll save money doing it the manual way.

I wonder if this does more than the command line "whois" and "dig". Seems a bit pricey for Macs that already have this built in, but if you don't like using Terminal, this could be handy

My 2 cents a bit too late, but here goes anyway. This is of practical use to me, so I bought it based on comments without trying it. Played with it a bit and I like what it does. Yep, its a "one trick pony" and yeah, Whois info isn't always accurate, but overall, both can be useful.

Thanks to all who do make constructive comments here, and ask probing questions, I've come to rely on them when assessing offers here and elsewhere. <<H>>

WhoIs Analyzer might do a great job of finding the information you seek, but do not put absolute trust in that information, because there are a significant number of false or incomplete WhoIs entries and a growing number of proxy entries. For more information about WhoIs issues, please refer to http://gnso.icann.org/issues/whois/.

The "Terminal" which comes with Mac OS X won't do all this... It also will not save output easily you'd have to cut & paste yada, yada, yada...

Whois Analyzer Pro is unlike any other whois tool on the market today because of its state of the art searching capabilities. It can perform whois queries on any IP or email address, Universal Resource Locator (URL or web address), or Autonomous System Number (ASN) from any country worldwide and return the most current data on file.
