Also I just noticed that they have already come out with Version 8 for Windows (and perhaps Linux). Doesn't it seem likely that this may be a last ditch effort to push Version 7 for Mac right before they release Version 8 for Mac? I'm really hoping that isn't the case, but I do have my suspicions especially in light of their less than ideal upgrade policy. How often does Navicat upgrade complete versions? Does anyone here have any long-term experience with this company/product?

I'm a little wary of this Promo purchase because it says that upgrading to Navicat 8 will be a paid upgrade.

The Windows version of Navicat is already well into version 8, so I can't imagine that the Mac version is too far behind going to that release number.

...would hate to purchase and then re-purchase in a short time frame....

I use to use this tool quite a bit, but in recent years, the free MySQL GUI tools have grown powerful enough that I simply stopped using. In fact, until I saw this promo, I'd forgotten how much I once depended on Navicat.

Their very explicit description of the upgrade policy (at the end of the description) suggests that they're trying to sell a bunch of version 7 before they release version 8. (They explicitly state that v8 will be a paid upgrade).

If you're in the market for something like this, I would suggest taking a look at the free CocoaMySQL before shelling out for a commercial app

SSH Tunnel is a fantastic feature. This tool is more way more powerful than the free tools that are available especially in the areas of importing data and creating and altering tables. I found other free solutions to be fine for basic sql execution, but not nearly as nice as Navicat for database administration. The only problems that I've had is a bit of instability, but it wasn't too bad.

I just tried it out and it looks really great. I really have problems with the free tools from mysql as they crash very often on my machine (Leopard, MBP). So I switched to Cocoamysql long time ago which is much more stable but limited in functionality. This app has really all the functionality I need and it seems to be stable.

I am really excited to try out this app, I have been editing tables in cPanel's UI up until now and after using the trail for a bit it looks like this will make things faster and easier.

MAJOR Kudos to offering Navicat.

I’ve used Navicat for several years now and it’s the best MySQL tool out there peiord. GUI or otherwise. You can control every aspect of a database or your entire server load of databases with ease. I use it to backup my databases daily, transfer databases to a localhost. Say goodbye to phpMyAdmin and bigdump. Use Navicat through an HTTP or SSL Tunnel for extra security that phpMyAdmin cannot offer.

Thanks MacUpdate!!!

I"ve used NaviCat on Windows and its a great product. The SSH tunneling is a great feature, I wish CocoaSQL would get that working already.

That said, if this promo included the upgrade to version 8 I'd be all over it. Odds are the upgrade will cost whatever was saved with the promo.

I've been thinking about getting my hands messy with MySQL for one of my clients. However, I know absolutely nothing about it yet. Is Navicat a program that will actually help build a MySQL database (once, of course, my webhost has turned on the MySQL feature and created a blank database file on the server)? Can I used Navicat to make all the fields, tables, and relationships between these tables? OR is Navicat just useful for basically viewing and querying the database content once the MySQL database has been built using other programs that come with MySQL? I'm looking for a program that will help me build the MySQL db from the very beginning and has a more Mac-like GUI than doing everything via terminal.
